It is best to call the office during weekly office hours. Therapists can have different specializations and availability within their schedule. OUr staff will set your intake appointment with the therapist that best suits your needs. Please take a look at our therapist profiles here , or stop into the office to pick up a printed brochure. Be advised not all therapists are taking new patients at this time.

The first session is often a time of introduction and paperwork completion. The information provided in this session is the first step toward building a trusting and secure relationship with your therapist. Some clients prefer to put as much information out in their first session as possible and others need a little more time to open up. Your therapist will help with whatever information you provide and is held to the highest standard of confidentiality. Its okay to let him/her know if you aren’t quite ready to talk about everything. This is something you can discuss with your therapist at your first intake session while paperwork is reviewed.

Most necessary documentation will be requested by your therapist, however there are several documents that might be helpful in different situations.

A list of current medications and dosages.

Results or records of any previous neuro or psychological testing.

Write down any questions you have about therapy or the process, this is a great time to alleviate any concerns you have.

Were you recently hospitalized for a mental health issue? Please bring a discharge summary, or full medical record. This helps your therapist to start with a complete recent history of events, medications and treatment provided.

Are you seeking services for a child, and are involved in a current or ongoing custody issue with another parent or guardian of the child? Please bring pertinent legal paperwork regarding court counseling requirements and/or placement and guardianship.

Yes.

It may be best to attend the first session on your own so that you can be as honest and open with your therapist as possible. A support person can certainly bring you to the office and wait in the waiting room. With your permission other individuals are allowed into your sessions if there is a therapeutic need and/or family involvement is desired. This is something that should be discussed and agreed to with your therapist prior to bringing an outside participant. Please discuss this with our office staff if you have any concerns about being alone for your first meeting. Often children are accompanied by parents for the first session. The therapist will ask any participant to leave the session and wait in the lobby when necessary.
